FRISCO-Frisco Lone Star scored on its first six possessions and cruised to a 52-0 victory against Frisco Liberty on Friday at the Ford Center.

Lone Star (5-1, 3-0 13-5A) had 4 plays of 50 or more yards in the first half, all for touchdowns. Junior running back Darrin Smith rushed for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns, scoring on runs of 56, 1 and 76 yards.

Lone Star senior quarterback MJ Rivers was 7-for-9 passing for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of those scores went to junior wide receiver Ife Opere, who had 3 catches for 136 yards. Opere's touchdowns went for 58 and 70 yards.

The Lone Star defense forced three turnovers (2 interceptions, 1 fumble).

Liberty (1-5, 0-3) was led by junior quarterback Mitchell Miller, who ran for 67 yards and passed for 60.

On Thursday the JV Rangers hit the road to play the Red Hawks at Liberty High School.  The first quarter began with a trick play by the Red Hawks as the quarterback walked up to talk to the linemen and the center whipped a direct snap to the running back.  The Rangers would not be fooled as they sniffed out the play, made the tackle, and eventually forced a Red Hawks’ punt.

The Rangers first drive started with a little razzle-dazzle of their own as Grant Hardy connected with Jacob Bogdon for 27 yards on a flea-flicker pass.  The Rangers went to the air for most of the drive as Tanner Glover caught a pass and Jacob Bogdon caught two more passes.  With the Rangers sitting at the Liberty 20 yard line, the ground game got going in a  big way as Chris Lagrone ran in the game’s first score.  The Tanner Denton extra point staked the Rangers to a 7-0 lead.

The Red Hawks showed some life on the ensuing drive and pushed deep into Lone Star territory but the defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs.  The second Rangers’ possession took us to the 2nd quarter as Vance Miller unleashed a powerful run on 3rd down to keep the drive alive.  The two teams ended up trading punts and then the Rangers found the end zone again.  Liberty dialed up a blitz to create some pressure but Grant Hardy quickly hit Jacob Bogdon out of the backfield and Bogdon took it 35 yards for the touchdown.  Tanner Denton added another extra point and the Rangers were up 14-0.

The Red Hawks had a short drive on the next possession as Roger Hubbard made a big 3rd down tackle to force a punt.  Then Rangers’ drive was even shorter as Grant Hardy hit Elliot Schubert on 1st down for a 57 yard touchdown pass.  Yet another Tanner Denton extra point put the Rangers up 21-0.

The Red Hawks had another short drive and Roger Hubbard made the big play on 3rd down again.  This time it was an interception that set the Rangers up near mid field.  But with little time on the clock the half ended with the Rangers holding the 21-0 lead.

The Rangers received the 2nd half kickoff and quickly found the end zone as Jacob Bogdon caught a Grant Hardy pass for 55 yards and the touchdown.   Tanner Denton tacked on the extra point for a 28-0 Ranger advantage.

Devin Gonzalez slammed the next kickoff into a Liberty returner’s chest and the loose ball was quickly recovered by Garrett Shelley.  With great field position the Rangers kept the ball on the ground as Joseph Everson, Vance Miller, Te’Juan Hart and Sam Varner all carried the ball.  But it was Joseph Everson that broke into the end zone for the touch down.  Tanner Denton did hid thing and the Rangers were up 35-0.

The Red Hawks would not go quietly as they hit a long pass of their own for their first score of the game.  The next drive by the Rangers was a clinic in ball control as they used up the rest of the 3rd quarter and all but 1 minute of the 4th quarter.  The offense flexed their muscles and ran the ball the entire drive that was capped off by a Vance Miller touchdown run.  Devin Gonzalez added the extra point to give the Rangers the final margin of victory at 42-7.

Come see the JV team next week at Lone Star stadium as they look to continue their 4 game win streak when Wakeland visits for a 5:30 contest.  Go Rangers!
